International Hydrographic Programmes Manager

United Kingdom Hydrographic Office

Shape the success of international hydrographic programmes - and much more besides.

Salary £39,599 + A Recruitment and Retention Allowance may be available dependant on CAT A surveyor specialist skills, knowledge, and experience.

About us

At the UK Hydrographic Office we provide the most comprehensive range of marine geospatial information across the globe. Our customers span commercial shipping, defence navies and maritime organisations. Our work supports safe navigation and efficient global trade, as well as everything from environmental protection to security and defence.

About the role

In this important role you will make the most of international hydrographic opportunities, with a keen focus on the UKHO’s bilateral partners. We will look to you to identify, coordinate and manage a portfolio of hydrographic projects and programmes around the world. Crucially, you’ll also provide consultancy and technical assistance to a variety of customers - from foreign governments, to non-governmental organisations and commercial companies.

You will enjoy scope to shape our success in this area. For example, you'll develop and own the methodology we use for conducting technical assessments of foreign governments, and you’ll also develop business cases, funding submissions, and survey strategies. The data we acquire from your consultancy work will inform the development of exciting new products.

About you

An IHO Cat A surveyor (or equivalent with at least five years’ experience) you will bring to the role extensive, worldwide hydrographic experience. We’ll expect you to demonstrate knowledge of the very latest methods of hydrographic data collection, processing, and appraisal standards. Naturally, you’ll also be trained or experienced in delivering complex, multifaceted programmes.

An excellent communicator with sound judgement and experience of cross-government working, your ability to develop hydrographic solutions tailored to customer needs really sets you apart. Please note, this role calls for regular interaction with members of the public, so fluent spoken and written English is essential.
