The Head of Digital and the Head of Justice Services are senior roles reporting directly to the Chief Digital & Information Officer (CDIO). 

The Head of Digital will lead on digital services for the Ministry of Justice HQ and HM Courts & Tribunals Service. 

The Head of Justice Services will lead on digital services for the Justice agencies, encompassing the Legal Aid Agency (LAA), Office of the Public Guardian (OPG), Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) and a number of Arm’s Length Bodies with Justice (ALBs). They will partner with these agencies to understand and meet their needs and strategic direction. 

The Head of Digital and the Head of Justice Services are vital members of the CDIO’s senior management team with wide-ranging accountabilities that include: 

● defining a coherent future vision and strategy for the digital transformation of the Justice System and delivering it in line with the overall strategic goals of MoJ and its agencies 
● ensuring all JD&T services meet user needs 
● delivering new digital services and/or purchased software including ensuring their ongoing sustainability and continuous improvement 
● delivering and continuously improving digital services that cut across the Justice system to better join up our services 
● representing the team in activities that span agencies within MoJ and across other government departments, including liaising with Cabinet Office, Government Digital Service and beyond 

Responsibilities and accountabilities: 

Managing relationships with multiple stakeholders 

● managing the relationship with stakeholders in relation to JD&T services 
● being the trusted partner for stakeholders and representing JD&T within the senior management team 
● liaising with and holding to account internal JD&T service owners to ensure successful delivery of services to stakeholders 

Setting strategic direction 

● defining JD&T digital strategy and delivering against it 
● understanding agencies’ strategies and spotting opportunities to collaborate 
● influencing direction of travel within agencies to ensure alignment 
● providing relevant, practical and timely counsel to senior stakeholders on areas including transformation, continuous improvement, risk and debt management 

Direction and delivery 

● developing the digital strategy and delivering against it at pace 
● maintaining oversight of progress, guiding where necessary and staging effective interventions if required 
● ensuring that digital and business services are delivered within budget to agreed service levels 
● managing risk and assuring end-to-end service 
● accountability for motivating and deploying JD&T delivery teams 

Managing finances 

● managing budget for in-house delivery and management of software services 
● managing third party contracts with a view to continually lower costs 
● identifying opportunities for savings and cost-efficiencies 

Resourcing and people 

● accountability for cost-effective utilisation of delivery teams within JD&T 
● working with service owners and Heads of Profession to enable effective, prioritised delivery within available resources 
● balancing risk and cost-effectiveness to make recommendations for successful outcomes over the short and long term 
● understanding and representing needs from broad range of agencies within MoJ 
● leading the drive to professionalism by supporting Heads of Profession as they raise standards within their community and across the team as a whole 

Performance 

● accountability for the overall performance of JD&T delivery teams 
● accountability for successful delivery against Department’s strategy 
● leading the drive for continuous improvements against strategic goals
