Director of Communications
The Director for Communications will be a key member of our Senior Team which is collectively responsible for supporting DWP Ministers in maintaining the successful operational delivery of our services daily, while transforming those services, and developing and implementing policies and strategies for reform. The successful candidate will lead all our public and internal communications to support the welfare reform outcomes and drive some of the most significant behaviour change campaigns in government. They will drive excellence in all our communication activities, utilising a diverse range of channels to engage with both internal and external stakeholders, and will continue to deliver outstanding media relations given the daily appetite of the national news media. They will also support a continuing focus on developing leadership at every level: during a sustained period of significant policy reform and transformation DWP has seen increasing levels of engagement among colleagues.
They will also provide effective and professional leadership to 160 staff in our Communications function.
We are seeking an exceptional strategic communicator and inspirational leader with experience of working in a complex environment that is subject to media attention and public scrutiny. You will have an impressive track record in providing clear, balanced advice and professional leadership at Board level on a wide range of sensitive and complex communications issues. You will be highly experienced in driving news coverage to support public relations campaigns at both a national and local level, and in delivering high profile, innovative marketing and communications campaigns across a range of channels. You will have proven ability to deliver under significant pressure, to set a clear vision, and to provide effective leadership to teams during times of transformational change. You will also have a high degree of political sensitivity and professional judgement to command confidence at every level.
