Senior Director, Mergers
We are currently looking for a Senior Director, Mergers to work as a key member of our leadership team. The position reports to the Executive Director, Markets and Mergers, Andrea Gomes da Silva. The successful candidate will have a key role in the strategic direction and delivery of the CMA’s mergers work.
The CMA is an exciting and rewarding place to work, and is set to become even more so over the next few years. As a result of the UK’s exit from the EU we expect a significant increase in the number of mergers we review each year and will be reviewing large, global mergers alongside the European Commission and other key competition authorities around the world. Our mission though will remain the same: to ensure the UK consumers are not harmed. Preparing for that challenge, and meeting it, will be a key aspect of the role in the coming months and years.
To succeed in this role, you must have significant knowledge and experience of competition law, policy and cases including experience of merger control proceedings in the UK and EU, ideally at both Phase I and Phase 2. You should also be able to grasp new and complex legal and economic concepts quickly and accurately, including relevant competition, markets and consumer law and procedure and developments in CMA policy.
If you are a strong leader, able to inspire, motivate and build capability across your team; if you have been able to deliver consistently high performance within a complex and fast-changing environment; and if you are comfortable working under extensive external scrutiny then this could be the role for you.
All CMA staff enjoy generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, 25 days annual leave (increasing to 30 days over five years), favourable consideration of flexible working, generous maternity / paternity provision and interest-free season ticket loans or cycle to work scheme.
The CMA is here to make sure competition works in UK consumers’ favour and businesses treat their customers fairly. What we do really matters and makes a difference to people’s lives.
We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome suitably qualified applicants from all backgrounds.
Alongside recruiting for this Senior Director of Mergers role, the CMA is also commencing recruitment for a Senior Legal Director. Interested candidates are invited to apply for both positions.
We look forward to hearing from you.
