Salary: £14,000 per annum + accommodation + benefits
Hours: Term time only / part time. 3 evenings per week and all-through each weekend during term time. Commencing September 2018

The Company: Our client is one of the UK's best independent co-educational day and boarding schools which educate children from Nursery through to the Sixth Form on one site, enabling staff to know and value every child. Set in 75 acres of grounds, the school has a forward thinking educational vision, a growing Sixth Form, impressive examination results and an ambitious development programme.
There is currently a brand new opportunity for two individuals or a couple committed to supporting the personal development of children and the boarding school community to join the school based in Basingstoke.

The Role: As a Resident Boarding House Parent, you will be responsible for supporting the smooth running of the Boarding House. These are new roles, arising from the development and growth of boarding at the school. The role will comprise primarily of house duties, administration, and boarding activities, working 3 evenings per week and all-through each weekend during term time, focused on the care, supervision and welfare of boarding pupils, acting as a role model.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:
  • To ensure the welfare of children in the Boarding House through effective supervision
  • To shape the behaviour of all in the Boarding House through the delivery of sound pastoral care
  • To help develop a sense of commitment to and regular participation in activities
  • Answer general correspondence and assist with filing, photocopying and shredding
  • Take part in performance management / appraisal cycles
  • To act as a role model to pupils through professional conduct reflecting the school's expectations of high standards of appearance and courtesy by the pupils
  • Liaise with school staff
  • Liaise with external agencies / partners to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all boarders is met
  • Liaise with parents of boarders ensuring that they receive a weekly report and maintaining all records pertaining to this
  • Any reasonable request by the Headteacher/SLT/Line Manager

Suitable candidates will include individuals or couples committed to supporting the personal development of children and the boarding school community.

Essential Candidate Criteria:

  • Full driving licence
  • Experience of caring for children / sick children
  • Well organised with excellent time management skills
  • Experience of using Microsoft packages, internet and email
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to understand the views of others
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to deal confidently with a wide range of people
  • High levels of commitment, motivation, energy and enthusiasm
  • Approachable at all times and empathetic to the needs of others
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques
  • Knowledge of safeguarding/child protection procedures and confidentiality issues/protocol
  • A good role model and demonstrates professionalism at all times
  • High standard of personal dress and appearance
  • Common sense and a good sense of humour
  • Be able to work flexibly as workloads require and takes ownership of individual tasks

Desirable Candidate Criteria:

  • Formal training in social work or child care
  • Current First Aid at Work qualification
  • Preparedness to undertake minibus driving training
  • Counselling experience
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of the roles and ethos of school life
  • Experience of pastoral/tutor role
