As part of our preparations to leave the EU, we are establishing with the Trade Bill a new independent UK body, the Trade Remedies Authority (TRA), to defend UK businesses against unfair trading practices.

We are now seeking to appoint the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the TRA. This is an exciting and high-profile role responsible for the initial setup and enduring operational robustness of this new body. A member of the senior management team, the COO will adopt best practices for public bodies to ensure that the TRA is run effectively and that its corporate functions are fit for purpose to sustain the important work that it purports to do. They will be the key agent for continuous improvement within the TRA, building and developing capacity and capability within their teams and enabling strong performance on core strategic deliverables, business engagement objectives, and overall operational results.

The successful candidate will be a senior leader with proven organisational skills and a track record of building, developing and delivering strategy and corporate functions such as finance, operations, HR, digital or estates. They will have a track record of building high-performing teams, possess excellent communication and influencing skills, and significant experience of engaging with and influencing senior internal and external stakeholders, ideally both domestically and overseas. Preferably, they will be familiar with international trade policy and have an appreciation for the operational challenges of complex investigations.

This will be a challenging and demanding, yet exceptionally rewarding, role. It will offer the successful candidate a unique and exciting opportunity to make a positive contribution to the delivery of a fair and robust trade remedies regime in the UK once we have left the EU, to positively protect the UK’s industries, and to ensure the TRA is set up to succeed in the long term.
