Return to Teaching - Teachers required
Sandwell Academy is one of only a handful of schools across England to be selected for an innovative pilot scheme designed to help teachers return to the profession after a career break.
The Return to Teaching programme is designed to support those who would like to return to the profession and rekindle their passion for teaching.
With benefits including flexible working, an acclimatisation period and training to bring skills back up to speed, the programme is designed to make the process of return as easy as possible.
Sandwell Academy Headteacher Ian Williams said: “Many teachers put their career on hold to raise children or care for family. After a career break, returning to the profession can seem daunting.
“We are one of only a handful of schools to currently offer the Return to Teaching programme, which provides the best opportunity for those who have had a break to care for others to get back into the classroom at the top of their game. Participants will have the school’s full support and benefit from a mentor, training and progression opportunities.”
The programme is currently available to secondary qualified teachers in Science, English, Mathematics, MFL and Humanities.
In order to qualify for the Return to Teaching programme, applicants must be qualified teachers who have previously been employed as a teacher in the English state secondary sector but are not currently in a permanent teaching role in the state sector.
The programme is specifically focused at ‘out of contract’ teachers who have taken a career break of any length to focus on caring responsibilities, and who are now looking to return.
Sandwell Academy is hosting a drop-in Return to Teaching launch event for teachers interested in the programme on Tuesday 26 June between 12noon – 5pm.
