Computer Systems and Security Administrator

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic group which is championing the improved use of healthcare data in research. The post holder will be responsible for systems and security administration in the Big Data and Analytical Unit (BDAU) Secure Environment (SE), an ISO 27001 certified research environment holding sensitive medical data. This will include support of Linux and Windows infrastructure, statistical software and healthcare data within this environment. The successful candidate will be expected to work directly with multiple teams of researchers and data vendors so good communication skills are key.
Duties and responsibilities
The post holder will be required to perform a substantial portion of the day to day systems support in the BDAU, including: support of operating systems (UNIX, Linux and some Windows), Support of software installation and trouble-shooting (Stata, SPSS, Matlab, SAS, Python, R, KNIME) and Support of out-of-hours changes to infrastructure (firmware upgrades, drive installation, machine patching) to name but a few.
The post holder will have a degree or equivalent experience in IT, Computer science, information management bioinformatics or a related numerate or scientific discipline. In addition, the post holder will have experience in managing Linux and/or UNIX operating systems, experience of data security and programming and software development.
The post is being offered on a full time basis for 1 year in the first instance and will be based at the St Mary’s Campus, Paddington.
