Secure UKHO’s ongoing success with your exceptional networking skills

Our remit at the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is something that the entire team is passionate about – we provide marine geospatial data that enables organisations and individuals to safely navigate the world’s oceans. With our products relied on by the Royal Navy, we are proud to say that our information directly contributes to the defence of the country – and it also enables the 90% of world trade shipped by sea, brings fishing vessels home safely, allows marine and resource exploration and even helps those working in environmental protection. With such an array of industries looking to us for high-quality services, it is no wonder that our employees are so enthusiastic about their important work.

Joining the Data Acquisition team, you will support our work to source and secure accurate data from multiple sources. Conducting research into potential data suppliers (such as the UK ports, government departments and bodies, industry and academia) you will develop good working relationships with these sources to develop opportunities. Crucially, you will also manage the relationships we have with UK ports to ensure continuity of data supply and to negotiate new permissions. You will ensure the commitments of our data sharing agreements are met, including financial obligations, in accordance with Data Acquisition Division Policy.  You will also support the pursuit of data collection funding opportunities.

Remaining aware of the limits to your authority, you will have experience of managing business relationships and negotiating mutually-beneficial outcomes. As you will be expected to represent UKHO at a variety of events including ports and harbour masters’ seminars and maritime conferences, we will expect you to have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and you will be a diplomatic individual, with the capacity to think quickly and respond to issues as they arise. Confident in your ability to analyse and share complex information, you will be a collaborative team-player. An understanding of the importance of UK ports would be beneficial, as would experience of working with other marine sectors (such as marine security and environmental protection) – though this latter requirement is not strictly necessary.

While we are committed to delivering an exceptional level of customer service to our clients, we share the same level of commitment to our staff – to provide them with a working environment that is welcoming, supportive and inspirational. When you join us, you can therefore expect a unique level of job satisfaction, with access to career-defining projects, plenty of training and development opportunities and a collaborative team-spirit in which every member of staff is valued for their input into the business. Join us today, and explore for yourself the true definition of an outstanding work/life balance.
