Role

Leading the financial planning, forecasting, reporting and analysis for a fast-growing private equity backed company that is the UK market leader in its industry. This role is available at an exciting time and the successful candidate will play a major part in the company’s ongoing business transformation.

Background
You will be a qualified accountant with several years post qualification experience in a Business Planning role in industry or working in practice with experience of corporate finance transactions and/or logistics clients.

Key accountabilities:

- Provide commercial insight and analysis of results, identifying underlying trends and challenging the business on operational and financial performance
- Lead a team of three analysts with responsibility for producing accurate and timely management reports, including an analysis of sales, key direct costs (eg labour, fuel, maintenance, and subcontractors), as well as asset utilisation and operational expenditure
- Preparation of the monthly Board pack, with commentary and analysis of key variances to budget and trends
- Take ownership of performance management reporting for the business, including the reporting of P&Ls and relevant KPIs on a daily, weekly and monthly basis to inform the business of current trading performance
- Support and challenge the operational teams to achieve enhanced financial performance through business partnering
- Oversight of the reporting on open book contracts
- Ownership of the annual budgeting processes and periodic updates as required
- Support the strategic planning and strategic initiatives of the company, including M&A and major asset purchases, by providing financial planning and modelling skills, as required
- Ensure integrity of financial data supplied by financial accounting team to other areas of the business
- Support other areas of the business in meeting the requirements of external stakeholders (eg auditors, funders, investors)

Skills (Essential to the job):

- Proactive in building relationships and comfortable working cross-functionally and liaising with senior management.
- Strong commercial focus with the ability to understand business strategy, identify and interpret financial trends
- Ambitious, proactive and forward looking with the drive to continuously improve
- Ability to work to a high level of detail and accuracy
- Excellent modelling, analytical and data handling skills
- First class communication skills (both written and verbal) including ability to work with people from a non-financial background
- Experience of managing and developing a team
- Ability to combine technical strength and knowledge with flexible and pragmatic approach required in a commercial environment
- Good Excel skills relevant to the interpretation and manipulation of detailed financial information, and presentation to internal and external interests.
- Matrix management skills – particularly likely to include technical support, training and development of team members
- Flexible approach and the ability to meet demanding deadlines
- Logistics experience (highly desirable)
