Community Liaison Manager

This is an exciting opportunity to promote Suffolk’s award winning Energy from Waste facility, telling the story of waste in Suffolk and reinforcing the need to reduce, reuse, recycle and recover.

The role involves approaching community groups of all varieties, as well as schools; organising and facilitating the site’s Community Liaison Group; circulating information; creating links with local and national initiatives; and giving presentations and briefings.  You’ll also market and manage our visitor centre, lead visits to the Energy from Waste facility and deliver waste minimisation and recycling campaigns, talks, roadshows and schools education programmes. It’s all about getting our message out there and showing the world what we do – and the difference it makes.

As Community Liaison Manager for our Energy from Waste facility in Suffolk, part of SUEZ recycling and recovery UK’s contract with Suffolk County Council, you’ll be contributing to an ever growing established company that’s helping customers reduce their impact on the environment, conserve natural resources and reduce waste to landfill.

SUEZ is undergoing a dramatic transformation to help the United Kingdom become more resource-efficient by replacing traditional waste disposal methods, such as landfill, with a host of new technologies and services designed to extract the maximum value from the things we throw away, thereby also conserving natural resources.

Operating across the public and private sectors, and serving millions of customers every day, SUEZ has a wide and diverse range of stakeholders -  from politicians, regulators and the media to business directors, academics and householders .

The Community Liaison Manager is responsible for managing these relationships in Suffolk, by devising and implementing community programmes. You will be helping the local community understand and support the idea of waste being a resource by creating a programme to raise awareness.

Furthermore, the Community Liaison Manager will support internal communications campaigns to engage and involve the people working on the contract. You will also be responsible for ensuring the contract website is up to date and be the first port of call for local press queries.

The role reports to the Corporate Affairs Manager for the South and sits within the 20 strong communications department within SUEZ recycling and recovery UK. You will maintain a close working relationship with the Site Manager responsible for the contract and the Service Development Manager at Suffolk County Council.

The position will be located at our Suffolk facility in Great Blakenham, Ipswich.

What are the requirements?

You will be confident and out-going in nature and be able to engage with and speak to a variety of different individuals, groups and organisations from school children to technical specialists.

You must be able to create, lead or participate in teams for a range of purposes (i.e for an event, to produce a particular programme, or launch a campaign). The ability to generate ideas and initiatives and see them through to fruition is important.

This role has an educational focus and you will enjoy learning and development as a discipline and helping others to learn. Formal teaching / education related qualification or experience within the field of waste awareness is desirable, though not a prerequisite.

The Community Liaison Manager will contribute to the budgeting process and will be expected to manage the activities of the visitor centre within budget. Therefore some experience of budgeting or financial management will be of benefit.

The successful candidate is required to have the ability to write copy for newsletters, press releases, responding to public queries, educational material and web updates.  Experience of media relations is also desirable.
