These are challenging times for the District and this post will put the successful candidate at the very heart of what is to come. The Director of Planning and Regulatory Services is a cornerstone in its leadership team. Reporting to the Chief Executive, this influential post helps ensure the organisation is fit for purpose as the Council moves forward. With multiple interesting projects such as Bradwell Power Station, in addition to improvements to the A12 and A120 this is an exciting time to be involved with Maldon District Council.
As the Director of Planning and Regulatory Services you have overall responsibility for the functions delivered within the Planning and Regulatory Services Directorate including responsibility for the Directorate budget of some GBP2.9m (including staff costs), of which some day to day responsibility has been delegated to managers.
You will be degree qualified and be a member of the RTPI. A proven track record of successfully leading multifunctional teams at a senior level in a large, complex organisation as part of a collaborative and effective corporate leadership team is essential for this role as you will be managing 57 members of staff. You will be the lead officer for all matters regarding Planning and Licensing, in addition to being the lead for translating the Local Development Plan into planning policy with the which can be delivered through the development management team. Alongside the Chief Executive, the Director will develop and promote a culture that empowers staff in addition to building on the 'can do' culture that already exists. Maldon District Council are in a fortunate position where their Local Development Plan is close to implementation due to the support from Committee members.
The post will make a major contribution to the Council's cultural and transformational change agenda and will ensure that opportunities for the District to achieve sustainable economic growth are seized. You will drive forward the leadership of the department through inspiration and effective delegation to line managers, in addition to providing them with support of the management their people, performance and budgets.

*We are offering a salary up to GBP90,211 (Inclusive of a 1% pay award and potential 15% salary supplement) plus excellent benefits.
