We are a small, vibrant, independent Arts Centre in the centre of Stratford.  We have a small, collaborative team, and we would like you to join this team, ensuring the Finance Department runs smoothly so that we can deliver our great programme of entertainment and education for the community.


The Role of Finance Assistant

The Finance Assistant will play a key role in a small finance team, responsible for the smooth running of the sales & purchase ledger and treasury.  The job will involve processing and coding both sales & purchase ledger invoices,  cash handling and reconciliation and liaison both with external and internal parties.  Stratford Circus Arts Centre is a busy venue located in the heart of Stratford.  The working environment is varied and busy.


Main Areas of Responsibility

  1. Sales Ledger & Purchase Ledger
  2. Treasury – cashing up, petty cash, banking
  3. Box Office  - reconciliation and coding
  4. Processing sessional pay

1. Sales Ledger

  • Daily processing of invoices and credit notes
  • Liaising with Events Manager and customers to resolve queries
  • Filing of invoices & booking forms
  • Debt collection

 2. Purchase Ledger

  • Raising Purchase Orders
  • Daily processing of purchase invoices, matching to Purchase orders, authorising and preparing for payment
  • Administration of payment runs
  • Liaising with suppliers to resolve queries
  • Filing of invoices and purchase orders

3. Treasury

  • Cashing up and reconciling weekly box office and café income
  • Disbursing and reconciling petty cash
  • Disbursing and reconciling floats
  • Banking

4. Box Office ·Coding & reconciliation

  • Preparation of Box Office reports

       5.     Other Duties

  • Gift Aid/Donations
  • Foreign Entertainers Tax Returns
  • Filing and administration as required

Person Specification


AAT or other book keeping qualification - desirable but not essential


At least 2 years working experience within a Finance department – essential


Experience using Sage Line 50 – desirable but not essential


Knowledge of working within the charitable sector – desirable but not essential
