Bring your engineering expertise to consider the innovative potential energy technologies, and you’ll help to shape the UK’s energy landscape of the future.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy brings together responsibilities for business, industrial strategy, science, innovation, energy and climate change. Our work is huge in its scope - from leading the government’s relationship with business, to championing world-leading research and tackling climate change.

Your role

You’ll provide vital roadmaps of future energy technology improvements. Crucially, you will consider how these improvements may have an impact on the long-term support we provide to those technologies in the UK. Taking the lead on technical matters, you will be a trusted source of expertise. We will look to you for an engineer’s specialist view on innovation in these technologies. Helping to influence the future, you’ll also provide technical and project management support for the Innovation Programme.

Your credentials

Our team engages with a wide range of engineering issues, so we will expect you to be comfortable working in various different areas and across technology areas.  These include low carbon heating / gas grid / materials / nuclear engineering. You may be a specialist in process engineering, including hydrogen related applications. A specialism in electricity network power transmission and distribution would be equally valued here. Or you may have expertise in the integration of information and communication technology into energy industries. If you have knowledge, skills and experience in any of these areas, plus a flair for advising and the confidence to take the lead, please get in touch.

Your reward

In return for your dedication, in addition to remuneration, you will benefit from our commitment to support your ongoing development. We take pride in the learning and development opportunities we offer. You’ll also enjoy excellent Civil Service benefits, including pension. What’s more, with the potential for flexible working, you can find the right work/life balance for you.
