Town Planner - Flexible Working

Glasgow, Scotland

Fixed Term for 12 months - part time role average 3.5 days per week

Network Rail is at the heart of revitalising Britain’s railway.  The railway is essential to the economic prosperity of this country, transforming how people travel and making a massive difference to passengers and freight users across Britain.  And as a town planner you’ll understand the importance of the railway to sustainable development and of railway stations to urban regeneration.

The Town Planning team in Scotland is involved in some ambitious and diverse ventures; supporting the Edinburgh to Glasgow Improvement Programme, including the redevelopment of Glasgow Queen Street Station, and obtaining consents for the proposed ‘bridge climb’ Forth Bridge experience.

Reporting to the Town Planning Manager you will work closely with project teams in the delivery of advice, planning and heritage consents, permitted development use and planning policy consultations.  You will also provide advice on complex and sensitive projects affecting the large number of listed buildings and structures in our ownership.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will have membership of, or be eligible for, RTPI or RICS licentiate schemes. Strong communication/negotiation skills are paramount as is your ability to manage your own caseload.

As a fixed term part-time post this vacancy may suit someone looking for an opportunity for a new work experience or flexible working.  Specific days of work can be agreed and we can be flexible in terms of working hours.

Along with a rewarding career with competitive pay, we can offer excellent benefits including:

  • a choice of contributory pension schemes
  • a generous annual leave package
  • a bonus scheme
  • and an annual 75% subsidy on season tickets costing up to £3,000 (to a maximum amount of £2,250)
