  • Are you the kind of person who combines strategic and inspirational leadership with the ability to make things happen?
  • Do you already have hands-on experience of successfully driving through organisational and cultural transformation in an operational environment?
  • Do you have a track record of delivering results in a complex stakeholder environment?

If so, you may be our next Chief Operating Officer

The Food Standards Agency is a non-ministerial Government department responsible for regulating the food industry in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

This is an exciting time to join the Agency.  We are at a pivotal moment in food regulation and food standards - 25% of the way through a bold four year transformation programme, aimed at modernising and future proofing the regulatory regime in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.  The UK’s exit from the EU will create both opportunities and additional expectations - over 95% of the department’s work is currently driven by legislation and regulation originating in Europe.  Whilst we don’t yet know all that this entails, we do know that sustaining public trust in food and maintaining high food standards are non-negotiable for consumers in the UK and abroad.

Following the recent appointment of our new Chief Executive Officer, we are now recruiting for the challenging but rewarding role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) to provide strong and visible leadership in all operational matters for the Agency.

In this critical role, as part of the Executive Management Team, you will lead on all operational matters, implementing FSA decisions in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner.  You will also be responsible for driving continuous improvement throughout the organisation particularly in terms of cross-agency working, openness and the increased use of data and technology.

You may already be a Chief Operating Officer, or an experienced operational senior leader seeking your first COO role.  Whilst experience of the food sector may be helpful, what’s more important to us is that you are an inspirational and engaging senior leader with strong communication skills and a successful track record within an operational delivery environment.

If you are interested in what this role could offer you and think you have the skills, experience and ambition that we are looking for, we’d love to hear from you.
