Job Title: Business Development Manager

Location: London

Reporting to: Commercial Director

Basic Salary: GBP35,000 - GBP38,000 based on experience

A fantastic opportunity with my client who provide insight, analysis and competitive intelligence for the UK and Europe's leading etailers, E-commerce and multichannel retail professionals.

They comprise a bimonthly Magazine, weekly newsletters, portal, IRTV and webinars and are ranked one of the UK's best multichannel retailers producing industry-leading Conferences, Expo's and Awards.

The role:

The role of the Business Development Manager is to drive sales, selling sponsorship and exhibition opportunities as well as following sales strategies and initiatives to ensure the on-going growth of the event

Main duties and responsibilities:


  • Selling by phone and face to face to current and new business customers to meet sales revenue targets, selling exhibition space and high value sponsorship on the designated events
  • At all times representingthe companby in a professional manner
  • Ensure that all commercial and contractual agreements are in-line with agreed company policy; ensuring that any and all non-standard contractual business terms or arrangements are appropriately authorised, in writing, in advance
  • Following sales strategies and initiatives to ensure the ongoing growth of the events
  • Working closely with the show team to maximise sales opportunities and promotion
  • Build relationships and contacts with new accounts to create new revenue opportunities from untapped sectors
  • Attend weekly sales meetings with the project teams
  • Continuously developing market and product knowledge
  • Following up campaigns via telephone and email
  • Attending competitive events and industry trade shows for business development


  • Weekly reporting on sales plans and activities to the Commercial Director


  • Ensuring and assisting accounts personnel in the timely payment of all customer payments
  • Ensuring that all sales administration is completed to a high standard and in a timely manner

Skills and Behaviours:

  • Previous experience as a Sales Manager in a specialist industry
  • Proven experience of delivering results, building and maintaining business relationships while constantly developing sales strategies and initiatives to ensure the ongoing growth of the event
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the sales process
  • Demonstrates effective active listening and communication skills
  • Ability to meet and exceed productivity targets
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to negotiate and build rapport effectively
  • Strong objection avoidance and objection handling skills
  • Be able to build trust and credibility amongst our potential customer base.
