Specific responsibilities / activities include:

  • Managing the high level communications aspects of RN incident and crisis management;
  • Representing the Royal Navy within the Ministry of Defence and with key stakeholders both internal to government and from external organisations;
  • Leading and orchestrating the overall approach to RN reputation, strategic positioning and profile efforts, internally and externally, in support of the Navy Board (NAVB) and Directorate of Defence Communications (DDC);
  • Leading and orchestrating the overall approach to internal messaging in support of personnel engagement and retention;
  • Single point of accountability for all aspects of RN communications activity, including attending and advising the NAVB and Navy Command Board on communication matters, and providing advice and guidance on the presentational aspects of RN business to the 2* / Director-led business areas;
  • Generating opportunities, and delivering against the RN Strategic Communications Strategy, including managing the means of communication delivery;
  • Managing, analysing and articulating communication threats to RN reputation, and advising on appropriate communications activity and responses;
  • Managing a proactive and effective stakeholder management programme for the RN;
  • Professional head of the media operations branch.
