Reporting into the Director, Development, Testing and Operations, the Deputy IT Director, Messaging provides strategic and technology leadership in the delivery and management of HMRC’s messaging and integration services. Our Messaging Delivery Group owns and manages all of the common integration platforms that connect all HMRC internal and external services and our customers – a key enabler for our Digital Transformation and our ambition to be the most digitally advanced tax authority in the world. Simply put the Messaging parts of HMRC’s technology are the ‘glue’ that holds everything together - without this none of it works.

Key deliverables of the role include:

• Providing visionary leadership for HMRC’s Messaging  and Integration direction, in partnership with our Chief Technology Office

• Leading and maturing the Messaging Delivery Group, including a sustainable talent plan, the recruitment of a team to meet demand, governance and group operating procedures 

• Developing and delivering the plans for the budgeting of the whole Group, managing the costs of the Messaging and Integration platforms to ensure value for money

• Leading and managing a team that provides 24/7 live support for Messaging and Integration services.

• Managing the third party suppliers who provide our Messaging and Integration services

• Providing advice and input to the integration strategy requirements

• Maturing ways of working in line with the CDIO strategy e.g. DevOps and iterative and agile methods.
