As Deputy Director for Quality, Safety and Investigations you will be responsible for the development and delivery of a set of priority programmes and policies to improve quality and safety in the NHS and to ensure the health system as a whole responds and learns effectively when things go wrong. 

You should be understanding and have the capability to deal with sensitive issues for example in relation to families who may have suffered harm or individuals who may have raised concerns, showing both good judgement and compassion. You will work closely with Ministers, the Department’s arms length bodies, clinicians and patients. 

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate success in the following areas: 

● Outstanding leadership skills, with the ability to articulate an inspiring vision, and, engage and motivate people to deliver in line with business objectives; 

● Strong written and oral communication skills with a proven ability of communicating in a transparent manner; 

● An ability to build highly effective relationships across organisational boundaries up to and including Board / Ministerial level; 

● Strong policy and analytical capability, with an ability to use and interpret evidence to set priorities at a strategic level; 

While it is not essential, an understanding and experience of Parliament and the legislative process would be highly desirable. Applications are welcome from individuals within and outside Government who can show how their skills and experience can be applied in this role.
