We are looking for an experienced world class Hydrologist

Are you a visionary and innovative leader in hydrological or land surface modelling? We are seeking a leader for a new 5-year, ca.GBP6 million research programme that will deliver the next generation, high resolution physically based land surface and hydrological models for the UK. The programme (Hydro-JULES) is supported under NERC National Capability funding to CEH, the British Geological Survey and the National Centre for Atmospheric Science.
Leading a multi-disciplinary team the successful applicant will deliver a major advance in land-surface and hydrological science to fully represent the terrestrial water cycle in models. Through novel systems research into the flow of water, both vertically and laterally, coupled to land surface-boundary layer science, the Joint UK Land Environment Simulator (JULES) model, and hydrological models will be advanced to incorporate state-of-the-art hydrological science developed under this programme. This is an ambitious research programme to create a new collaborative and community activity around an open access and fully coupled modelling framework. To deliver this capability for the community the research will be undertaken in collaboration with a number of other national and international organisations, universities and institutes. Key partners include the University of Reading and the UK Met Office. The successful candidate will be considered for a visiting Professorial position at the University of Reading.
The individual: The post requires proven expertise in hydrological model development, coupled with excellent leadership, management and negotiation skills. The successful applicant will have an outstanding CV that demonstrates the ability to direct the research of a large team, produce high-impact outputs, attract research funding and an established national and international reputation in the fields of hydrology and mathematical modelling. On behalf of NERC and key stakeholders the Hydro-JULES programme leader will take an active role in working with the community on the further scientific development of the JULES modelling system.
To reflect the importance and seniority of this position the successful candidate will be appointed to a salary of up to c. GBP70K per annum. Under exceptional circumstances this position could be managed as a 3-5-year secondment.
