Higher Research Scientist - Medical Ultrasound

A permanent vacancy exists for a Higher Research Scientist to work in the Ultrasound and Underwater Acoustics Group within the ultrasound area. The main project focus areas are related to quantitative imaging and elastography, with a strong emphasis on novel research leading to the development of standardised characterisation methods that will support existing and emerging clinical applications. A strong track record in the area is important, together with experience in publishing in scientific journals.

The successful candidate will have a PhD level qualification in Physics, Medical Physics or equivalent, preferably with post-doctoral experience in a relevant field. A good working knowledge of the operation of the various types of ultrasound imaging systems in medical use, with direct experience in developing systems to acquire, analyse and present ultrasound imaging data, and experience of working with tissue mimicking materials are all advantageous. Software skills should include MATLAB and/or LabView.

The role involves practical research, and requires a careful, methodical approach and attention to detail. The ability to problem-solve and propose appropriate solutions, along with an understanding of the underlying physical principles is also important.

Strong personal motivation, good communication skills with the ability to interact and network with collaborators, science peers and future customers, business awareness and an ability to work to deadlines within a team are prerequisites for the role.

Based in a unique, purpose-built research environment, we are located in beautiful surroundings on the edge of Bushy Park, south-west London with a host of onsite facilities. These include a subsidised cr??che, restaurant and free parking.
