The UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is seeking a new Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) to lead the Digital, Data and Technology team. The CDIO will be a key enabler for delivering operational and professional excellence within BEIS, and will report to the Director General for Finance & Corporate Services. The key priorities for the role include moving from legacy systems to a more dynamic solution and drive the digital transformation across BEIS to improve commercial innovation and effective delivery.

BEIS is a UK government department, which was created in July 2016 as a result of a merger between the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department of Energy and Climate Change. BEIS is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive industrial strategy, leading the government’s relationship with business, ensuring the country has secure energy supplies that are reliable, affordable and clean, tackling climate change and guaranteeing that the UK remains at the leading edge of science, research and innovation.

BEIS would like to identify a senior leader with a proven track record of defining and driving a digital transformation. The successful candidate will provide strong leadership and senior-level advocacy for the delivery of IT and digital technology solutions with the ability to work with executive and non-executive colleagues.

You will need to demonstrate an ability to strategically transform the technology estate and embed a sustainable digital capability across the department. You will need to have the intellectual rigour and strategic perspective required to create a strong governance and performance culture, setting clear objectives and deliverables and holding people accountable for delivery.

You will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills and have an interest in government.

This is a full-time equivalent position which is also open to a job share.

The selection process will be overseen by the Civil Service Commission.  More detailed information can be found at on the Civil Service Commission website: http://civilservicecommission.independent.gov.uk.
