This is an exciting opportunity to join the International, Growth, and Analysis group (IGA) at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) as a Chief Economist and/or Director of Analysis.

BEIS is one of the biggest economics and analytical departments in Whitehall. We have an incredibly wide remit with priorities that include: leading on an Industrial Strategy designed to create good jobs and growth right across the country; creating a cleaner, smarter energy system; climate change; and ensuring that the UK’s exit from the EU is as smooth and orderly as possible.

As a Chief Economist and/or Director of Analysis you will be responsible for leading the Analysis Directorate in IGA, with 6 Deputy Director direct reports and around 140 staff (mostly professional analysts). You will also be the Head of Profession for Analysis in BEIS (and if a professional economist, Chief Economist), responsible for leading the wider analytical community of more than 300 professional analysts in BEIS from the four analytical professions (economists, statisticians, operational researchers and social researchers).

To be considered for this role you will need to be a strong, credible leader and able to provide evidence of:

· Leadership and change management ability, effectiveness and credibility to operate at all levels within an organisation;

· Strong analytical background including economics, with proven ability to work across different professions to support policy development, drive strategic connections and support stakeholder engagement. You will be a recognised professional analyst (if in government – a member of GES/GSR/GSS/GORS);

· Ability to drive high standards, inspire and motivate specialists in a matrix management environment;

· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships with a broad range of senior stakeholders within Whitehall and externally;

Experience and understanding of working in, or closely with, the Civil Service / Whitehall environment would be advantageous.

If you think you have the skills, experience and ambition that we are looking for, we’d love to hear from you.

Please see link for further details about the role and the application and selection process.
