Inscape House School is a specialist school for children with autistic spectrum disorders and related conditions, based on our Campus in Cheadle. Ofsted rated Good this school supports students aged 5 - 19 providing dedicated support, teaching and therapy to ensure students to recognise their potential, maximise independence and celebrate achievements. Due to the nature and interest of our students our plan is to become cutting edge specialists in computing so we are now seeking a specialist computing teacher to lead us in achieving our goal. We are already a Excellence Teaching School in Computing

As the specialist teacher you will have a genuine interest in computer technology, particularly new technologies, coding and cyber security. Having said this you will have the ability to teach a wide range of students in anything from learning how to search the internet safely to understanding and decoding viruses. Pupils' abilities range from low P levels to Advanced Level 3. You will have the ability to tailor your curriculum to meet the interests of each individual student meaning those that you have identified as gifted in this area can be supported to achieve potential. Only 16% of adults with autism are in full time employment yet we know that autistic people have many skills and strengths that employers are looking for, particularly in computing.

One of the biggest challenges at Inscape is tackling cyber security. Educating internet safety is essential for all children, however, particularly important when it comes to children and young people with autism who can be more vulnerable. The successful candidate will therefore be responsible for managing and promoting the 'Cyber Security Challenge' and other national and local opportunities

Elements of the role include;

  • Working effectively within a multidisciplinary team which includes other Teachers, Speech and Language, Occupational, and Positive Behaviour Therapists, Educational Assistants and other professionals.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum and the demands it places on children with special needs, you will have the ability to communicate effectively and be flexible in dealing with changing circumstances.
  • You will also have a good understanding and commitment to the accountabilities within the current Teachers' Standards.
  • Inscape Teachers have line management responsibility for the class education assistants, including termly supervision and annual appraisal responsibilities.

As the successful Teacher, you will have Qualified Teacher Status and experience of working with children with ASC, in a classroom setting.

Above all you will have a positive attitude to change, coupled with the ability to work effectively and co-operatively with colleagues within a staff team.

The position is 43 weeks per annum (term time) and working hours will be 37.5 per week. Advertised salary is actual.
