Chair – Social Work England
High quality social work can transform lives. Social workers play an absolutely critical role in society, delivering a range of vital services to vulnerable children, families and adults. Social Work England will be a new specialist regulator for social workers that has an absolute focus on protecting the health and wellbeing of those individuals who need social work support. The credibility of the regulator will depend on its ability to deliver its core regulatory functions effectively and efficiently, supporting and protecting the public from the outset.
The Department for Education and the Department of Health are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Chair with the ability to develop and deliver a dynamic, responsive, efficient and outcomes focused social work regulator.
The development of this unique and bespoke regulator brings with it an exciting opportunity to lead the design and shape of this new organisation. The Chair will set the overall strategy for the new organisation, provide strategic direction and ensure compliance with statutory responsibilities. They will have a proven record of successful leadership within a complex organisation and be highly credible with a reputation for integrity. A recognisable understanding of social work, as well as an understanding of regulated environments is desirable.
Forging an effective working relationship with the Chief Executive will be key. The leadership team will need to establish constructive and consultative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and to embed the views and interests of service users and social workers in the organisation’s culture and operating model.
This will be a challenging and demanding, yet exceptionally rewarding, role. It will offer the successful candidate a unique and exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of the creation of a bespoke and specialist regulator. The Chair’s input will make a real and tangible contribution to raising standards in social work, to protecting the public and in turn enhance the status and standing of the social work profession and improve social mobility.
