Head of Communications
Are you an experienced and confident communicator with a passion for women’s rights? This is an amazing opportunity to work for an agenda setting, high profile organisation. Join us in the campaign to End Violence Against Women and Girls.
Violence against women and girls is never out of the news and the constant stream of new allegations in 2017 ensured even more media interest. Services which support women who have experienced violence are struggling to cope with a huge increase in disclosures at the same time as funding is cut. Public discussions about sexual violence, domestic violence, forced marriage, FGM and all forms of violence against women and girls are intensifying and leading to more questions about how we respond as a society. For EVAW, reaching a mainstream audience with a powerful feminist narrative about violence against women and girls is critical to changing perceptions and building the political capital necessary for policy change.
We are now looking for a Head of Communications to work with EVAW’s Co-Directors to develop our responsive and proactive communications strategies. Some of the time will be spent coordinating our media response to what is sometimes a high volume of media enquiries. This will involve acting as spokesperson for broadcast and print media and working closely with members, supporting them to increase their capacity and confidence in media response. Other time will be spent developing our communications strategy, including commissioning research into public attitudes and approaches to shifting deeply held cultural beliefs about the causes and impact of violence against women and girls.
We are looking for an exceptional person to fill this role. You will have:
- A proven track record in developing and delivering effective and innovative public communications and campaign strategies
- Extensive experience of media response, including acting as spokesperson for broadcast and print interviews and discussion
- Demonstrated high-level experience in handling the media, including the drafting of press releases and liaising with journalists
We can offer you a dynamic, creative and feminist environment and the opportunity to work on an incredible, high profile campaign with our members who are change makers, practitioners, researchers and discourse shapers in all areas of violence against women and girls.
