Finance Manager  - The Sun Editorial

Line Manager: Head of Finance – The Sun

Direct Reports: Dotted line management role Editorial Accountant & Editorial Contributions Co-ordinator based in Peterborough

Role:

This is a key finance position supporting The Sun Editorial teams, across Print and Digital.

Managing The Sun Editorial P&L and working closely with Managing Editors to ensure stretching targets are set and achieved, and spend is efficient and effective.

Providing insightful analysis to highlight risks and opportunities, and acting upon them to ensure the best result for News UK.

Responsibilities:

 

Business Partnering

  • Provide Managing Editors and Head of Finance with financial and commercial support to continuously improve financial decision making.
  • Challenge and influence Sun Editorial teams, to ensure efficient and effective spend.
  • Work closely with Sun Editorial teams to support supplier negotiations, and provide innovative ideas to improve cost efficiency.
  • Supporting the Managing Editor and Head of Finance with all financial decisions relating to editorial spend and product changes (pagination, new sections etc)
  • Benchmarking editorial cost trends and across Titles and identifying and monitoring relevant KPIs

 

Reporting

  • Accountable for ensuring accurate reporting of actuals and forecast
  • Review of the weekly Sun results
  • Review of the Sun month end results (P&L and Balance Sheet)

 

Planning & Forecasting

  • Responsible for 3 year plan, budgeting and forecasting cycles for The Sun Editorial P&L and related product and pagination costs
  • End to end responsibility from calculating the numbers to preparing the presentations
  • Lead and support Sun Editorial teams in monthly and quarterly planning and forecasting processes in order to keep all relevant stakeholders engaged and up to date on performance and future plans.
  • Understand and challenge the underlying planning assumptions that support the forecast.
  • Work closely with Managing Editors to ensure reported spend, both actuals and forecast, is an accurate reflection of activity.

 

Analysis

  • Perform regular ‘deep dive’ analysis, often using large sets of data, to better understand the cost base and identify risks and opportunities
  • Utilise the TM1 editorial tool to improve transparency of spend in Editorial and across finance.
  • Scenario modelling to assess the financial impact of business decisions

 

Team

  • Help develop and maintain a high performing teams in Peterborough
  • Work closely with wider community of finance colleagues to share best practice and align priorities
  • Support the Head of Finance on ad hoc projects or across the wider Sun finance team as and when necessary
