Our client is a forward-looking College of Further & Higher Education that serves a large area of South East England with a wide range of vocational and academic courses, both full and part time. The College is situated in Ewell, close to Epsom in Surrey, and is located in the green belt near Epsom Downs and can easily be accessed either by car (junctions 8-10 on the M25) or rail (Ewell West is close and the college is next to Ewell East where you can get regular direct trains to Clapham Junction and Victoria). The College was last inspected in February 2016 retaining its overall grading of ‘Good’ under the robust new Ofsted standards.

Our client is currently recruiting to the following position:

Full Time Lecturer in Carpentry

up to £32,912 p.a.

(additional market supplement available for exceptional candidate)

48 days paid annual leave + bank holidays + 2 week Christmas closure

Our client is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and outstanding Qualified Carpenter who can make a real contribution to our strategic plan. Our aspiration is to become an outstanding provider in Surrey. The College will see significant investment and growth in the next few years, adding to its existing portfolio of construction provision, making it one of the most exciting places to teach in Surrey. Having recently invested over £30 million in our facilities to provide our students with access to the best facilities and equipment, they are seeking to ensure that our students are skill ready when they leave the door and are armed with an understanding of the current developments in the relevant technical disciplines.

Successful candidates will be required to deliver qualifications to both Students and apprentices in both workshop and classroom.

Applicants should have an industry recognised level 3 qualification in Carpentry or equivalent. Experience and knowledge of first and second fix carpentry work on a wide range of construction sites would be advantageous for prospective applicants, as would knowledge of building regulations and advances in building materials.

You will teach and assess students who are currently studying for carpentry levels 1, 2 and 3 including Apprenticeships.

Applicants should have experience of teaching and assessing in this area and have knowledge of the current apprenticeship standards and frameworks. Applicants should hold their A1 Award (or equivalent) and a teaching qualification (or be willing to work towards both of these). V1 (IQA) is desirable but not essential. New applicants direct from industry will be welcome to apply as support will be made available to gain teaching & assessing qualifications.
