Salary: £23,008-£24,173 per annum depending upon qualifications and experience
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week including some weekends, evenings and bank holidays

The Company: Our client is the UK's leading specialist residential college of further education for people aged 16+ who are blind or partially sighted. They currently have an excellent opportunity for an IT Support Technician to join their team in Hereford.

The Role: As an IT Support Technician, you will be part of the team providing technical support to all clients using the helpdesk system. Predominantly this will mean providing IT support to students and staff. Part of your role will be to provide a regular scheduled "laptop clinic" where users can bring their laptops and mobile devices in for repair, software installation, anti-virus checks and general assistance.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Work with the team providing support to users on all aspects of hardware and software
  • Provide technical support to the helpdesk
  • Take responsibility for setting up and supporting clients in the workplace
  • Perform computer hardware and software installations and repairs
  • Set up and support AV/IT equipment for internal and external room bookings
  • Set up and support exams and student assessments
  • Install and maintain network-connected equipment and cabling
  • Take responsibility for installing, supporting and upgrading Sage software used by the finance team
  • Run regular "laptop clinics" where clients can bring their laptops for patching, software installation/removal, anti-virus advice or repairs
  • Maintain, install and set up communication equipment
  • Portable appliance testing (PAT)
  • Provide induction sessions for new staff and students
  • Support the team by helping out or covering other members in any reasonable way

Essential Candidate Criteria for the IT Support Technician:
  • PC problem solving and repair experience
  • IT Level 3 qualification / equivalent experience
  • Ability to troubleshoot and fix faults on IT hardware and software
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft desktop applications
  • Good working knowledge of Apple and Android products
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Patience and understanding when working with challenging users
  • Full, clean driving licence

Desirable Candidate Criteria for the IT Support Technician:
  • Helpdesk support experience
  • Exposure to assistive technology software for people who are blind or partially sighted
  • Understanding of accessibility issues
  • Working knowledge of Sage Line 50 Accounts and Payroll
  • Knowledge of Mitel 3300 IP phone system
  • Portable Appliance Testing knowledge
  • SharePoint knowledge
  • Moodle knowledge
