Web Developer - Bury College
Bury College is a Further Education College offering a wide range of courses to over 5000 full time students and over 5650 part time students each year. The college currently works with over 50 high school partners, welcoming students from Bury and the surrounding areas.
In addition to over 900 students progressing to university from Bury College, 200 students choose to study a Higher Level course available at Bury College’s University Centre each year.
As a Web Developer, you will be responsible for supporting the work of the department to ensure that an outstanding service is provided to internal and external customers in an effective manner.
Working in conjunction with the MIS Project Manager, Head of Data Management and College managers to ensure accurate, relevant and useful information is easily available in an on-line format via the College’s network, you will be responsible for the development, maintenance, testing, documenting and support of Web based computer programs, systems, databases and reports to meet the College’s information requirements.
Involved in the maintenance of the College’s Information Systems, including the MIS/Timetabling system, the Learner Tracker, the College website and the staff Intranet (ensuring that all critical upgrades are applied in a timely and effective manner), you will assist with the maintenance and backup of the College’s Information Systems databases and should develop a sound knowledge of the College’s data and information related procedures and systems. You must also participate in the delivery of the College e-strategy including configuration and maintenance of the Virtual Learning Environment and ensure that the processing and storage of all learner related data is compliant with relevant legislation and is fully secure at all times.
With recent involvement with Web Design / Development technologies using current Web Authoring Tools including HTML and ASP, you should have experience of software development using Microsoft technologies and database development (SQL); recent experience using Microsoft .Net technology and Microsoft SharePoint technology is also desirable. You will ideally have experience of performing software diagnostics and maintenance, of delivering successful business support services to meet targets, outputs and deadlines and of Virtual Learning Environments such as Canvas, although these are not necessarily essential requirements.
