The role of Subject Tutor (16–24) is to prepare and conduct small group seminars and 2-to-1 supervisions for students attending our courses at ages 16–17 or 18–24. You can indicate which age group you would prefer to work with and have experience teaching on our application form.

Main duties

• Designing the academic content of the course around your interests and expertise
• Preparing reading lists and sending pre-course information to your students to introduce yourself and set expectations
• Teaching tutorials and seminars in your subject to a group of up to 8 students across a 2 week course
- 2 x 1.5 hr seminars on each Monday and Tuesday
- 1–4 x 1 hr tutorials each Thursday and/or Friday – setting and marking essays/problem sheets in advance of the tutorial
- Setting c. 25 hrs coursework
• Completing a feedback form on the course and students
• Safeguarding – if you are working with young people under the age of 18 you are required by law to undertake generalist training for safeguarding if you have not done so in the last three years

Practical details

• Dates of the 2 week summer courses for 16–24 in 2018:
- Course 2: 1st July–14th July
- Course 3: 8th July–21st July
- Course 4: 15th July–28th July
• Courses take place at one of our Cambridge college locations
• Competitive rates of pay are in line with your qualifications and teaching experience
• Accommodation is not included


Minimum requirements
• An excellent tutor with experience of teaching undergraduates
• Supporting Oxford Summer Courses’ approach to teaching in a creative and interactive way
• Familiarity with – and passion for – the city of Cambridge, University of Cambridge and tutorial teaching
• No criminal record and well-suited to working with young adults
