This is an exciting time to join Defra. We are looking for a Head of User Centred Design to join our Digital, Data & Technology Services (DDTS) to support EU Exit. Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer, you will be responsible for leading the new User-Centred Design (UCD) profession within Defra’s Digital function. You will be providing strategic insight and leadership to the UCD profession. Through leading, planning and developing a culture of agile service development to support our changing customer needs, you will motivate the UCD operational teams to deliver results to deadlines, fulfilling quality standards. You will champion UCD, providing leadership across the profession and deputising for the Chief Digital Officer when required.

Our vision is to create a better place for living, and Defra Digital will achieve this by putting users first, being data driven in our design, and designing services that work across multiple devices, whilst building multidisciplinary agile teams across the country and investing into our own digital capability. This will be achieved through effective resource deployment, budget management, and effective stakeholder management including owning key GDS relationships.

We are looking for someone who has excellent stakeholder management skills with business and political awareness, who has excellent influencing, relationship and conflict resolution skills. Someone who has established strategic thinking and strategy development in User Centred Design. Someone who can manage a complex matrix of multi-supplier environments as well as examining complex information to make accurate decisions.
