An excellent opportunity has arisen to be part of an innovative and proactive Out of Hours Emergency Duty Service that responds to statutory emergencies outside of office hours and where necessary will take action to keep service users safe, as well as satisfying the statutory requirements in the relevant legislation.We are inviting applicants to apply with the ability to screen, co-ordinate and undertake Mental Health Act Assessments that are referred to the Emergency Duty Service outside normal office hours and to respond to all emergency referrals under the supervision of the duty ManagerThere may be occasions when you will be required to respond to other work or cover center duty, this will be under the direction of the Duty Manager.The post is initially being offered as a temporary appointment with possible option to extend.

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wider operational area including travelling around the county of Essex and beyond, transporting service users and their belongings and to be able to do so in an emergency. Driving licence and car or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means is essential.

As part of employment with Essex County Council (ECC) should your role require a DBS check you will be required to register with the DBS update service. The DBS update service ensures all registered DBS certificates are kept up to date and allows authorised parties to view the status of your certificate. This is an annual subscription and you will be responsible for ensuring this is maintained. For further information on the DBS update service please visit: https://www.gov.uk/dbs-update-service

Please note that Essex County Council has determined that the off-payroll working rules will apply to this assignment and where a worker elects to provide their services through an intermediary (such as a personal services company) then income tax and primary national insurance contributions will be deducted at source from any payments made to the intermediary.

Applicants must be approved Mental Health Act Professionals (AMHP) with evidence of current approval status.

To have experience of working in an AMHP Team or participating on an AMHP Duty rota.

Ability to work under pressure and to organise practice workload effectively

Ability to participate effectively in supervision

Ability to undertake emergency MHA assessments and carry out statutory duties under pressure.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally in a style appropriate to the context.

A thorough understanding of the legislation relevant to the AMHP role

Knowledge and understanding of relevant research and an awareness of Mental Health Act reforms.

The willingness and ability to work in an open manner as part of a team, with a commitment to sharing and working alongside staff in your own and other organisations whilst at the same time recognise own management responsibilities
