This is an exciting opportunity to take on a key leadership role in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) under the leadership of the Environment Secretary Michael Gove.

Defra is responsible for a vast range of issues and in some way, everyone is affected by our work.  From food, farming and fishing, to enhancing the environment, improving animal welfare and protecting lives and properties from flooding - we are at the forefront of dealing with a vast range of issues that people care about and that grab public and media attention.

Defra is also at the vanguard of the government’s EU exit work.  We are the department most directly affected by it and most able to make the most of the opportunities it presents. Defra has a vital role in ensuring a successful exit from the EU as we leave the Common Agricultural Policy and the Common Fisheries Policy, and take back control of our environmental policy – major areas of work that will require significant contributions from an experienced communicator and leader.

We are now recruiting a Group Head of Strategic Communications and a Group Head of Campaigns and Content. These roles will work closely with the Group Director of Communications to oversee the Defra group’s strategic communications, campaigns, content and engagement programme to support Ministerial, departmental and delivery body priorities – particularly around high priority policy such as EU Exit.

We are looking for two exceptional people to join the leadership team heading up our teams delivering strategic communications, external affairs, content and campaigns for the group.
