The work we do at the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) performs a dual function. As an internationally-renowned marine geospatial information provider, our products are used by a host of marine industries in order to safely navigate the oceans. Our information is also relied on to enable trade, thereby contributing to the success of the British economy. It therefore comes as no surprise that we have a loyal clientele consisting of organisations of all sizes, including the fishing industries, scientists and the British Navy.

In order to meet the changing needs of our customers, we need to keep evolving. That includes transforming how we work – and ensuring a pipeline of talent exists within UKHO. As such, we have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Business Analyst to join our team, combining hands-on experience with training to complete the British Computer Society International Diploma in Business Analysis. Across a two-year period (or thereabouts) you will complete written and oral examinations – at which point you will be considered for promotion to the role of Senior Business Analyst.

Within your role, you will analyse the business needs of UKHO, working with stakeholders to establish where and how we need to change and shaping business cases to demonstrate the options. Once the relevant change programmes are underway, you will then participate in the delivery of these initiatives, including models of the ‘As Is’ and ‘To Be’ situations including activity diagrams and business process models, data models (class diagrams) and state transition diagrams.

To excel in this varied position, you will need experience of working on projects and engaging stakeholders. With strong analytical skills, you will understand the intricacies of motivating people to change and improve. Good communication skills will be essential, as will the capacity to work at pace and deliver results in a dynamic organisation. With the capacity to make effective decisions and lead colleagues, you will have the flexibility to work in a matrix environment and collaborate with third-party suppliers.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your capabilities within an industry-leading organisation. With the opportunity to work on commercially-driven challenges against the backdrop of a civil service organisation, you will be exposed to a wealth of fascinating projects. Further supported by a friendly and supportive team environment and access to the networking opportunities that will shape your future career, there is no better place in which to hone your analytical skills.
