Explore what you are capable of – and then let us help you exceed your expectations

As a civil service organisation with a business mindset, the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) offers a fascinating career trajectory.

Our employees are tasked with nationally-important work, providing high-quality marine geospatial information as they map the oceans and enable safer journeys.

With our products and information used by a varied cross-section of clients ranging from the Royal Navy to international cruise liners, we support leisure, national defence and trade activities – plus a host of other challenges such as environmental protection, resource exploration and the fishing industries. Working responsively to meet the needs of our customers, our work is interesting and fast-paced – and now you can join us.

In order to sustain our successful business model, it is important that we remain at the cutting-edge of technology. We are therefore seeking two experienced Test Automation Engineers to provide automation consultancy at a technical level – while learning plenty of new skills involving industry-leading technology in the process.

The challenges you will be exposed to will be varied, ranging from implementing and enhancing test automation frameworks to supporting colleagues as they learn how to write test automation code. Bringing your knowledge of new tools and techniques to UKHO, you will also oversee the working practices of the team in relation to automation, ensuring we remain technically-advanced with particular reference to fields such as security and big data.

This is a unique opportunity to explore every area of test automation. No two days will be the same, as you will be called on to apply your knowledge to every element of the business, ranging from problem-solving automation issues to identifying new tools that would benefit UKHO.

We will therefore expect you to have a good knowledge of C# or Java, with significant experience of building or maintaining an automated testing framework. With the proven ability to write automation code, your experience of delivering professional software testing services within an agile framework will be complemented by exceptional communication skills.

You will need the ability to make decisions under pressure, and your enthusiasm for implementing change for the better and working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure this happens will make you an invaluable part of the team.
