Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new role of Post-doctoral Research Associate in Surgical Robotics and Imaging in the NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). The main purpose of the role will be to develop new approaches and surgical procedures by research and development of robotic devices that extend the capabilities of minimally invasive intervention. This will include the allied technologies of sensing and imaging to realise platforms for image guided intervention.

The NIHR Imperial BRC harnesses the scientific power of Imperial College London, the only UK University devoted wholly to science, engineering, business and medicine, and the UK’s largest group of research-intensive hospitals in Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The BRC supports the infrastructure to promote and facilitate the flow of research from laboratory bench to patient bedside as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Duties and responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for developing their research area and new research ideas to achieve the wider aims of the Surgery and Surgical Technology Theme. They will be expected to undertake and deliver high quality research that is published in high impact journals and presented at local, national and international meetings. They will also be expected to write reports for research sponsors and assist with supervision of post-graduate and undergraduate students.

Essential requirements

A PhD in computer vision, medical imaging, medical robotics, image guided intervention or a closely related discipline (or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience), is a prerequisite for anyone wishing to apply for this role. Applicants should be able to demonstrate previous knowledge of research methods and statistical procedures in addition to practical experience in technologies for robotics, automation or image guided intervention.
