Role: Part Time Residential Support Worker
Location: Cambian Whinfell School, Windermere Road, Kendal
Hours: Part Time, up to 25.5 hours per week, will include weekends and up to 2 sleep in a week.
Salary: £18933.46 to £21480.68 pro rata, Sleep-in rates are paid in addition at £50 per sleep-in.
Cambian Whinfell School is a 52 week service that offers 'Outstanding' residential education and care for boys and young men aged 11-19 with autism, challenging behaviour and complex needs.
We are seeking to appoint exceptional individuals to work with young people on the Autistic Spectrum with associated difficulties in a local residential special school and children’s home.

Residential Support Worker duties and Responsibilities
Provide care for young adults through:
Supporting in education, developing life and social skills and giving our young people the opportunity to be successful through inspirational activites.
Attending to practical matters in relation to daily living skills and some personal care etc.
Establishing positive relationships with our young adults and always offering them unconditional and positive regard.
Meeting the physical, emotional, behavioural and cultural needs of young adults.
Acting as a role model and demonstrating appropriate pro-social ways of dealing with problems.
Ensuring that each young adults care plan is followed and amended as appropriate to reflect their changing needs.
Supporting them to access the community and take part in volunteering/work experience opportunities.
To act as a key worker through:
Taking responsibility for an individual ensuring that their needs are fully met.
Establishing relationships which young adults perceive to be positive, warm and rewarding.
Providing advice, assistance and support on a 1:1 basis to enable young adults.
Providing emotional support at times of difficulty or stress.
Being ambitious for young adults, helping them achieve their goals and optimise their potential.
Empowering young adults and facilitating their active involvement in the decision making about their lives and future.
Acting as an advocate at meetings where the young adult might struggle to do so.
Encouraging the young adults to develop links with the community and attend off-site activities.
To work as part of a team through:
Being aware of the aims and objectives of the home and working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve them.
Attending team/ staff meetings and making a positive contribution to them.
Actively contributing to the development of the team.
Receiving and storing information to improve communication.
Being willing to give and receive feedback on performance with colleagues and managers.
Being aware of care plans for all young adults and providing support for colleagues by maintaining consistency in the execution of those plans.
Providing informal practical and emotional support to colleagues experiencing difficulties.
Attending and contributing to regular supervision sessions in line with Children’s Home Regulations.
Being familiar with all policies and procedures and adhering to them
You will need the following skills/qualifications/qualities:
Committed, passionate and able to work to a rota that recognises a work/life balance that will include evening and weekend work.
A passion for working with children and young people
Experience of working in Children’s Residential Care
Excellent communication skills and a “can do attitude”
The ability to engage young people

A willingness to learn
A level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care or be committed to acquiring this once you have completed your probationary period.
