We are looking to appoint a Clerk to the Corporation to provide expert advice and support to the Board drawing on appropriate external expertise as required. In preparing and servicing the business and meetings of the Board, the Clerk will ensure that proceedings are conducted in accordance with the delegated authority provided by the Corporation and in line with good practice within the Further Education sector and more widely in corporate governance.

Attitudinally, we are looking for a proactive, solution oriented individual who is open to new ideas and ways of working. We are seeking a collaborative individual, content to work as part of a team with the CEO and Chair, drawing on best practice from all sectors rather than focusing solely on those which have been prevalent in FE. We are ambitious and innovative and are looking to lead rather than follow in our governance aspirations. Being open to new ways of working and creating new solutions to issues is essential for this role.

The primary purpose of the Clerk to the Corporation is to support the effective and efficient operation of the Board of Governors and to promote excellence in College governance.

It is essential that you have proven experience in committee work and the administration of the formal meetings of corporate bodies in either the public or private sector and evidence of working as a member of a team. It is desirable that you should also hold the Certificate in FE Governance (a level 5 qualification) also a relevant professional qualification e.g. Company Secretary Qualification or College Clerk’s Professional qualification and an HE degree (FHEQ level 6 or above) in a relevant discipline.

Interviews will be held on 1st October 2018 (at the Central Campus, Brighton)
