Learning Support Assistant - Northampton College
In addition to general in class support, the role will assist with initial diagnostic assessments under the direction of the college SENCO, and ensure provision of appropriate and adequate support for students studying on specialist courses within the area of Essential Skills. Support may be provided to students who have experienced previous challenges in accessing Maths and English, or have learning, medical, physical, sensory, life and social skills, emotional and/or mental health requirements, and the role continues to have a focus on enabling students to learn independently. The role will assist in maintaining quality of support and ensure records of support delivered to students is accurate, and that students with support needs are tracked following ongoing assessment. The role will act as a key link for students, and may change in response to college priorities. This post will require a flexible working approach, and may require some evening work when required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The specific duties of each Learning Support Assistant (Specific) will largely depend upon the requirements of the student/s they are supporting.
In addition to the Learning Support Assistant duties, this enhanced post will:
Facilitate diagnostic initial assessment under the direction of specialist teachers.
Act as a key link between teaching staff, to ensure all are aware of the progress of students
Assist teaching staff with the identification of students that would benefit from accessing additional support services, and ensure teachers refer students to the relevant service comprehensively.
Record work completed onto the relevant electronic college systems, contributing to audit requirements
Contribute to case conferences and the review of support arrangements.
Monitor vulnerable learners and report any concerns to the relevant colleague promptly
Support teachers to ensure they complete applications for Exam Access Arrangements in a timely manner.
Attendance at meetings, and contribute to the quality improvement processes for the Additional Learning Support Team.
