Position: Learning Support Assistant
Location: Access Creative College, York, North Yorkshire (Commutable from Selby, Pocklington, Easingwold, Wetherby and surrounding areas)
Job type: Part Time, Fixed Term Contract ends on 31st July (potential for re-engagement next academic year or progression into a different role)
Hours: 8.5 hours per week, Term time only
Salary: £11.19 to £12.17 per hour

About the role:

We are now looking for a Learning Support Assistant to provide in-class, 1-2-1 and group support to three learners with identified support needs and educational health care plans at our York college. The learner's needs are varied and we are looking for someone who can support with the following: Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Autism, ADHD, Mental Health and Well-being and Behavioural difficulties.

This highly interactive role involves supporting and mentoring students to develop their studying and group work skills, as well as helping them build self-esteem and confidence. As a good relationship builder, you will work closely with your colleagues to continually provide feedback on your student’s progress and assist them in creating lesson plans inclusive of effective support strategies.

You will liaise with the Learning Support Tutor to establish the needs of the identified learners and plan the best way of supporting them and developing their engagement and understanding. You will work closely with the lecturer / tutor in the learning environment including classrooms, rehearsal rooms, studios etc, so that those sessions are planned for, supported, managed and delivered efficiently and effectively. This will include ensuring access to a scheme of work at the beginning of each term and a lesson plan before the beginning of each lesson.

Essential Skills / Experience:

- Minimum Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy or GCSE (Maths and English)
- Experience of supporting young adults with a range of learning difficulties and / or disabilities or a willingness to undertake training
- Good verbal and written English with good communication and liaison skills
- Experience of young people and related issues
- Work effectively with a wide range of staff and students and have an ability to build successful working relationships with appropriate curriculum teams

Desirable Skills / Experience:

- An interest in music
- NVQ Level 3 or A Level
- Possession of a relevant qualification such as certificates relating to adult learning and support, ESOL
- Understanding of, and the ability to use, strategies to promote positive behaviour
- Awareness of curricula and pedagogical issues relating to literacy and numeracy
- Experience in engaging young people in learning who have been disconnected from education
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, both with young people and a wide range of professionals, within the establishment and in the community
