Summary - Speech and Language -Education and Training

Academic are currently recruiting a graduate who has aspirations within Speech and Language to join a prestigious PMLD unit in Surrey. In this Speech & Language Assistant role you will be working 1:1 with PMLD pupils with limited or no Speech. Some of the pupils, through their Autism, will be selectively mute. If your objective is to be a Speech & Language Assistant, working in a specialist PMLD setting is a great place to start.

A degree in any subject, from Psychology to Drama, the interest to work with PMLD pupils has to be thereHas school experience - although personal experience would be useful as wellFlexible schedule, SurreyOpen mind and secure in your objectivesHas experience teaching small group sessions in Social SkillsComfortable planning and teaching these sessionsIdeally have experience working with students with autism and Specific Learning difficulties

Main Responsibilities

Assessing and reviewing needs, as well as implementing, evaluating and delivering programs and regular learning, therapyProviding 1:1 support in a specialist setting of 12-14 studentsWork closely with teaching and support staff membersTeaching regular classes in Social SkillsLearning Lego Therapy and other therapiesActively getting involved in extracurricular activitiesWatching Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists at work

Requirements

Recent experience and a genuine passion for working in a special school are essential. All applicants will need to hold a current enhanced DBS and be fully compliant to work in the UK.
