Office of Tax Simplification Chair Role

Responsibilities: Executive Management, Operations, Project Programme Management, Strategy, Business Development

Sector: Government

Contract Type: Contract/ Interim

The Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) is seeking to appoint a motivated Chair. This role gives an opportunity to influence at the most senior level of Government and set the strategic direction for the organisation. We are seeking candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds with a general interest in tax policy, but tax qualifications are not required.

The OTS is the UK’s official tax simplification body whose role is to advise the Chancellor of the Exchequer on ways to simplify the UK tax system as well as promote simplification more widely. The OTS was placed on statutory footing in 2016 as an independent office of the Treasury. More information and their recent reports can be found once applying.

The Chair of the OTS will lead the OTS board’s meetings and the Office’s engagement with HM Treasury ministers. The Chair will also represent the OTS at public engagements and can be requested to present evidence on the Office’s work to Parliamentary Committees.

The individual does not need an in-depth knowledge of the tax system only a general understanding and a good appreciation of the trade-offs governments face in making tax policy. You must be a leader with an ability to influence at the most senior level and be able to inspire confidence from a wide range of stakeholders. This should be illustrated in previous or current roles as a Chair, CEO, or head of function in a major or relevant organisation.

The precise time commitment will be up to the Chair to decide, but we expect this to be up to two days per month.

For further details and specific requirements for the role please click apply. You will then be redirected to the relevant pages online which includes application details. Applications close 27th November 2018.
