Assistant Librarian 

King Edward VI College is a sixth form college within the further education sector. The College has ancient origins; the chantry school of 1430 was re-founded as a boys’ grammar school by Edward VI in 1552; this in turn became a co-educational voluntary aided sixth form college in 1976. In 1992, King Edward’s was designated under the Further & Higher Education Act and its status was confirmed with incorporation in the 2001 Learning & Skills Bill. The College recently concluded the national area review process and will remain as an independent standalone sixth form college. 

Position: Assistant Librarian 
Location: Stourbridge, West Midlands 
Job type: Part Time, Permanent 
Hours: 22 per week Monday to Wednesday, Term Time Only 
Salary: £9,208.12 to £10,522.07 per annum for Term Time Only

About the role: 

The Assistant Librarian will deputise for and assist the College Librarian in the management of the library and its staff, to assist with the provision of comprehensive library services to all users, and to work flexibly across all relevant library-related processes and services. 


- Assist with the programme of research skills training for students studying the Extended Project Qualification 
- Liaise closely with Subject Leaders and Curriculum Leaders in order to promote and develop library use by students in their areas 
- Work closely with other teaching staff to support student learning 
- Develop the College library ambassadors scheme 
- Assist college IT staff in the provision of efficient and effective IT resources to students 
- Assist in the provision of training for all library users in the effective use of library resources 

About you: 

- Good general level of education 
- Relevant Professional qualification or working towards 
- Previous work in a library 
- Familiarity with computer systems 
- Good interpersonal and communication skills 
- Customer service ethos 
- Good at record keeping 
- Numerate 
- Good keyboard skills 
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications 
- Suitable to work with children and young people 
- Supervisory / management experience would be desirable 
- Experience working with young people would be beneficial 
- Experience working in school or college is advantageous
