Year in Industry Placements (Internships) in either Data Management or Production

Explore the fascinating field of hydrography – with an industry-leading organisation

The UK Hydrographic Office is a leading centre for hydrography, providing marine geospatial data to inform maritime decisions. We work with a wide range of data suppliers and partners to support maritime navigation, safety, security and marine development around the UK and worldwide.

We now have a number of Year-In-Industry Placements (internships) available within our Data Management and Production teams. Our Interns are essential in helping us meet our targets, bringing a fresh perspective to our work. These sought after opportunities will give you a career-defining insight into our work, and on-the-job experience.

You will initially receive comprehensive training, before joining one of the teams to apply your new skills to the management of hydrographic information, and the production and maintenance of navigational and geo-spatial products and services. With plenty of mentorship and ongoing training opportunities along the way, you will use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create edit and quality-check products, and source and capture data records – allowing you to develop a thorough understanding of the varied opportunities that exist within UKHO.

These internships will allow you to develop a thorough understanding of the varied opportunities that exist within UKHO and have the scope to transform your future potential, allowing you to work alongside field experts and gain access to unique projects.

Having recently completed (or currently studying for) a further or higher-level qualification in a subject such as Geography, Hydrography, Environmental Sciences or Earth Sciences, you will be keen to further expand your knowledge. A collaborative team-player, you will have strong communication skills and you will be comfortable learning and applying new, non-MS software packages.

If you are keen to work in a fast-paced team and you enjoy challenging yourself, then you will be a natural fit in our friendly organisation. Our colleagues will be there every step of the way, sharing knowledge and guiding your development.  If this is the opportunity you have been looking for, then we would love to hear from you.
