Buyer - Automotive

We are looking for an Automotive Buyer to join an industry leading hand and power tool company, providing quality tools to an extensive UK and Export distribution customer base, based near Southampton.

You will either be an experienced Buyer (Automotive Tooling) or as buying experience isn't essential if you have a solid background and understanding of Automotive Tooling (A Technician/Workshop Controller/Engineer) and are a product person who loves brands, catalogues and of course Tools, with aspirations to be a Buyer read on!

Salary £35,000 - £40,000 DOE

Working hours are 8:30am - 5:00pm, 1 hour for lunch with around 3-4 weeks of travel per year.

You will attend shows and exhibitions such as the AutoSport International - The racing Car Show, with around 4 weeks travel per year.

Main Objectives:

To source new products and review existing items to ensure products remain competitive. Understand customer needs, you will be able to maximise profits and provide a commercially viable range of products at competitive prices.

Keeping up to date with market trends and reacting to changes in demand are key elements of the role.

Responsibilities:

The Buyer has responsibility for the Tools products purchased.

  1. Identify, source and deliver both individual new products and new product ranges.
  2. Identify new manufacturing opportunities and supply chain improvements. This will require a level of global travel to visit the factories and attendance at international trade fairs and end-user shows in the UK.
  3. Ensuring the ongoing requirements of the business regarding; item and range quality, cost price, sales benefits and features, item profitability and stock availability are met.
  4. Input into the design of product packaging and proofing of marketing and sales materials whilst adhering to the Corporate Brand Guidelines.
  5. Liaise with both internal departments and an extensive external global supplier base.
  6. Take time to understand automotive mechanical terminology and applications of the actual products.
