Director of Finance, Europe

Dublin, Ireland based


A unique opportunity has emerged for a Director of Finance to join a relatively young US biotech who are on the cusp of launching their first two assets.

As the first within the role, you will lead in the establishment and development of a European finance function that can support and grow with the wider organisation.

As such, you must be very hands-on while being strategic in your approach. You'll have a proven ability to establish positive, collaborative relationships with the senior leadership team across Europe and the US.

Key duties

  • Be the Financial Business partner for all functions across the European organisation
  • Establish and build close collaborative relations with senior leaders in all appropriate country affiliates, the European organisation and the US/Global.
  • Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Statutory accounts for Europe ensuring timely and accurate filing with corporate guidelines
  • Providing strategic advice to key areas of the business in order to optimise effectiveness and decision making
  • Team management (hiring, coaching, training, performance management etc)
  • Ensuring full regulatory compliance with appropriate standard such as IFRS and GAAP
  • Accountable for the delivery of timely budgets, forecasts and strategic plans for the European organisation
  • Responsibility for the analysis (include. variance) and reporting for leadership team on key business focus items e.g. headcount/other labour, supply chain etc
  • Drive continuous process improvements in FP&A processes.
  • Develop and maintain accounting process and procedure documentation for areas of responsibility
  • Support and roll-out European wide Finance initiatives
  • Oversight of all European tax compliance matters.


  • Essential: ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified with considerable post-qualifying experience
  • Desirable: Be educated to degree level is desirable (e.g. Accounting, Finance, or Business Management).

Previous experience:

  • Essential: Leadership of a finance/accounting function for a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company
  • Essential: Excellent soft skills with a track record of working collaboratively in cross-functional and international
  • Desirable: Previously responsibility for growing a team
  • Desirable: Experience of working in a start-up or entrepreneurial organisation
  • Desirable: Experience working in an "above-country" capacity, ideally covering Western Europe+
