Pay - £9.75 per hour.

Job Purpose:

To provide residents with the highest standard of care and support, in accordance with their individual Care Plan and the Home’s philosophy of care. To act in accordance with the policies and procedures of the home.

To act as a role model for other care assistants.

Key Accountabilities:

To support carers in their roles as key workers.

To educate and enable other care staff to practice skills under direct supervision until competent.

To promote awareness and compliance with the operational policies and procedures of the Home.

To report all comments, compliments and complaints.

To report any defects, damage, theft, breakages or hazards.

To be familiar with the policies and procedures and the Employee Handbook and act in accordance with them.

Key Tasks:

To assist service users to carry out their activities of daily living e.g. washing, dressing, eating and bathing.

To provide residents with meals adhering strenuously to Food Hygiene regulations.

To provide beverages for residents and their visitors.

To help residents choose from the menu and assist them with eating.Report comments on food and requests for particular dishes to the Chef Manager.

Complete Food and Fluid Charts and report nutritional intake to Registered Nurse.

To take care of resident clothing, ensuring the correct collection, distribution and return of all laundered items.

To act as a role model for other care staff in respect of day-to-day activities with particular emphasis on attaining National Vocational Qualification in Care

To support carers in their roles as key workers.

To work to promote a high level of effective communication between the care and the nursing team.

To complete assessment documentation in collaboration with qualified staff.

To address residents respectfully and give care ensuring dignity and privacy are maintained.

To carry out bed making and changing of linen.

To keep the residents rooms tidy, caring for plants and watering flowers.

Assist with the tidiness of public areas, ensuring a safe environment.

To ensure the security of residents’ property and that of the Home.Report and hand in any lost property.

To carry out duties in such a way as to ensure the economical and safe use of resources and equipment.

To participate in the programme of activities for residents.

To assist qualified staff in the admission of new residents.

To assist qualified staff, under supervision and where appropriate, to carry out their clinical responsibilities for residents e.g. catheter care, wound dressings.

To assist qualified staff in the on-going assessment of residents, reporting any changes to the Nurse in Charge.

To adopt a neat, clean and tidy appearance at all times and wear the appropriate uniform as supplied by the Home.

To maintain the highest level of personal and work cleanliness and hygiene.

To be helpful and courteous to residents and visitors, referring enquiries about the residents’ condition to the Nurse in Charge.

To check the duty rota and sign for actual hours worked

To attend training sessions organised in-house.

To maintain accurate and legible records of care provided.Complete other assessment documentation under the supervision of a qualified nurse.

To attend fire evacuation and instruction sessions.

To carry out other duties as well, from time to time as directed.

To carry out all duties in a safe manner having regard to the Health and Safety of self, colleagues, residents and visitors to the Home.

To attend relevant staff meetings

Key Relationships (Internal):

To motivate care staff to perform to a consistently high standard.

To build up good relationships with residents and to provide care in such a way to help maintain and improve, where possible, independence and individuality.

Key Relationships (External):

Liaise with relatives, advocates, visitors and other health care professionals
