What it's about

We have an exciting opportunity for a Buyer to join our dynamic Group Procurement team. This Buyer position has arisen due to a restructure within the Procurement department and we are looking for a relentless, determined, focused and curious individual to join our team to ensure we get the right suppliers in place balancing the need to drive value and manage risk.

What you'll be doing

The Buyer will be under the general direction of the Senior Buyer, to perform procurement functions to support and deliver:
  • Day-to-day commercial activities associated with the products and services as required by the Group,
  • Identification of the right product/service provider,
  • Securing the right deal underpinned by the right contractual terms and conditions,
  • Compliance with Cambridge Assessment's Contracts Policy, and other applicable Group Policies and Regulations,
  • Successful negotiation focused upon reasonable cost, reduced risk, security of supply and flexibility,
  • Performance measurement to increase productivity, quality or costs.

Principle Accountabilities
  • Maintain the agreed procedures for the purchasing of products and services and to provide best practice purchasing in areas of designated responsibility.
  • To be accountable for the identification of areas of concern and risk in supply contracts within the post holder's area of responsibility and, seeking guidance from the Senior Buyer or Sourcing Manager where necessary, to negotiate improve clauses with the vendor in question.
  • Administer purchase order processing for all Group expenditure ensuring adherence to agreed policies and procedures
  • Deliver moderate value/medium risk projects as assigned by Senior Buyer
  • Support the Senior Buyer by:
  • Providing the required information to allow the goods and services sourcing team to develop sourcing strategies and to support their implementation.
  • Defining and maintaining all records and systems to ensure auditable evidence of process compliance and to provide detailed expenditure reports to projects where applicable.
  • Monitoring and measuring process performance producing regular and accurate management information/reports as required.
  • Contributing to ensuring procurement processes are defined and documented in a standard format to ensure compliance.
  • Operational management of the commercial input and external relationships with suppliers, chairing supplier meetings where required.
  • Communicate purchasing best practice process and procedures to stakeholder groups across the Cambridge Assessment Group.

What we're looking for
  • Knowledge and experience of procurement and supply in an office environment
  • Customer focus and good interpersonal skills
  • Good organisational skills - awareness of supply requirements
  • Ability to analyse data through spreadsheets, databases etc.
  • Working knowledge of standard SLAs and KPIs
  • Intermediate Microsoft office applications, Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint skills
  • Ability to understand and interpret standard clauses within commercial documents
  • Ability to develop good business relationships and understand the business organisation
  • Ability to build supplier relationships and engage with suppliers using the following methods: F2F, conference calls, over the telephone and e-mail.
  • Good literacy, numeracy and accuracy
  • CIPS Foundation Level or equivalent
